We’re kicking things off with an incredible debut album from London-based four-piece World News, In Purgatory.

Following a run of acclaimed indie-rock singles and three EPs since 2020, World News bring together their signature blend of cinematic guitar riffs, rich melodies and dreamy, expansive arrangements across their first full-length record.

Recorded at RAK Studios in central London with producer Tommy Bosustow (mary in the junkyard, Porridge Radio), In Purgatory features the six-minute standout “Sidestep,” alongside previous singles “Don’t Want to Know” and “Everything Is Coming Up Roses.” The album also includes “The Way It Goes,” a nostalgic, melody-rich slice of indie rock that showcases the band’s knack for pairing atmospheric guitars with infectious hooks. Written and demoed in 2020, the track reflects the album’s mix of older compositions and songs written in the weeks and days leading up to recording.

With a sound that evokes the melodic guitar work of Mark Knopfler alongside the polished hooks of The Outfield, World News have steadily carved out their own place in the UK indie-rock scene. Fan favourites such as “Wrapped in Gold” and “The Tinman”—the latter surpassing six million Spotify streams—have helped build momentum towards this debut full-length.

To celebrate the release, the band will tour the UK and Europe in October, including a headline show at London’s iconic Scala.
